Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Review

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: Speed, good looks, and pretty pictures number among the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100's strengths.

The Bad: The camera tends to clip bright highlights more than we typically see, and the slippery body lacks a grip. Plus, the lack of a manually triggered macro mode might put off some fans of close-up photography.

The Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100's compact, elegant design, generally excellent photo quality, bright, fast lens, and speedy performance make a great package if you don't mind spending a little more money.

Samsung NX210 hands-on Review

Samsung NX210 hands-on Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: With excellent raw photos for a sub-$1,000 model, a nicely designed user interface, and a broad set of sharing features, the Samsung NX210 is a solid option for enthusiast photographers.

The Bad: Its autofocus is a bit slow for the price and the JPEG processing could use some work.

The Bottom Line: The Samsung NX210's raw photos and the shooting experience it provides distinguish it from competitors, but it's slower than it should be and JPEG photos don't match the rest of the field.

Sony Alpha NEX-5R Review

Review
Setting its sights on a "new" set of photographers -- people who want to replace their low-end dSLRs with something a lot more compact -- Sony's evolved the midrange Alpha NEX-5N into the more control-friendly and connected NEX-5R. With a new sensor and redesigned autofocus system that combines phase detection and contrast technologies; built-in Wi-Fi with support for downloadable apps via Sony's Play Memories service; and some new physical controls to reduce reliance on the somewhat cumbersome NEX menu but with a few additions to its touch-screen repertoire, this really is a major upgrade over its predecessor.

Sony Action Cam HDR-AS10 Review

Review
Its existence wasn't a secret, but Sony's Action Cam is now no longer a prototype.

The supercompact camcorder measures 2 inches high by 2.6 inches deep by 0.9 inch wide and looks more like Contour's and JVC's models than the blocky GoPro cams. Not the best design for a chest mount, but for everything else it seems to be a smart move.
Being a Sony product, it's not made from no-name parts; up front you'll find Carl Zeiss optics and behind that are a 16-megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and a Bionz processor.

Fujifilm FinePix S4500 Review

Fujifilm FinePix S4500 Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: The Fujifilm FinePix S4500 offers a 30x zoom lens, AA batteries for power, an electronic viewfinder, and manual and semimanual shooting modes all at a bargain price.

The Bad: The S4500 feels and performs like a low-end point-and-shoot. Requires a lot of light to get good photos and videos in auto.

The Bottom Line: A nice feature set and a long lens make the Fujifilm FinePix S4500 one of the better megazoom cameras available for those on a budget.

Nikon Coolpix S6300 Review

Nikon Coolpix S6300 Digital Camera Video Review

The Good: The Nikon Coolpix S6300 is a small, lightweight pocket camera with a ultrawide-angle 10x zoom lens that's easy to pick up and use and has a nice assortment of snapshot shooting options.

The Bad: Though its overall shooting performance is good for its class, the autofocus is temperamental. Battery life is fairly short.

The Bottom Line: In the face of stiff competition, the Nikon Coolpix S6300 is an above average point-and-shoot made slightly better by a low price, simple operation, and nice features.

Review
The Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W690 has a very good ultrawide-angle lens with a 10x zoom in a small slim body. It's also relatively easy to use.

The Bad: The W690's shooting performance is slow and photos get noticeably noisier and softer at ISO 400, so you'll need a lot of light to get good results.

The Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W690 is a decent little 10x zoom camera, but similar models from Nikon, Panasonic, and even Sony itself offer more for your money.

Review
The Good: There's a lot to like in the Nikon D600, including a great set of shooting features, comfortable and intelligent design, and excellent photo quality and performance.

The Bad: Photos display some unrecoverable clipping in the highlights that you don't expect in a camera of its caliber.

The Bottom Line: The Nikon D600 is a really good camera for the money, as long as you're willing to shell out for the lenses that can do it justice.

Review
The Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 offers a 16x zoom, a high-res 3-inch LCD, and an above-average list of shooting options.

The Bad: Like Sony's other CCD sensor-based Cyber-shots, the H90 is slow and has a noticeable drop-off in photo quality above ISO 200.
The Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 is a fine choice for those wanting a compact 16x zoom lens for casual use.

Canon EOS Rebel T4i (with 18-135mm STM lens) Review

Canon EOS Rebel T4i (with 18-135mm STM lens) Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: The Canon EOS Rebel T4i delivers extremely good photo and video quality plus improved performance in Live View shooting over the T3i -- as long as you buy the more expensive 18-135mm STM kit. Plus, the camera has a more streamlined shooting design than its predecessor.

The Bad: The feature set remains rather blah, and its photos aren't as good as the T3i's at high ISO sensitivities.

The Bottom Line: A fine camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T4i's more expensive 18-135mm STM kit (or body with another STM lens) is the only version that merits an unqualified recommendation. You can probably find better alternatives if you just want a sub-$1,000 dSLR for still photography.

Review
The Good: The Nikon Coolpix S800c is a good-looking point-and-shoot running on Android with a nice touch screen, Wi-Fi, GPS, and full access to the Google Play store and all the apps and content you'd find on other Android devices.
The Bad: The S800c feels like a camera with an Android smartphone tacked on, and a slow and old one at that. Battery life is very short. Photo quality isn't any better than its far less expensive line mate, the Coolpix S6300.
The Bottom Line: The Nikon Coolpix S800c marries an above-average point-and-shoot with the functionality of an Android device with mixed results

Review
Panasonic's Lumix ZS20 a pocketable package with performance punch

Its 20x zoom lens might be the main attraction, but thanks to a healthy feature set, fast shooting, and nice photos and video, the ZS20 is all-around excellent.

Canon PowerShot S110 (Black) Review

Canon PowerShot S110 (Black) Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: The Canon PowerShot S110 has better autofocus than its predecessor while maintaining good-to-excellent photo quality.

The Bad: A not-very-impressive implementation of the new wireless connectivity features and still-sluggish image processing weigh down the camera.

The Bottom Line: Nice photo quality, improved autofocus performance, and a very compact design make the Canon PowerShot S110 a solid option if you're looking for something between a point-and-shoot and an enthusiast compact. But if you can find them cheaper, the S100 or S95 are still good alternatives

Samsung Galaxy Camera Review

Samsung Galaxy Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: The Samsung Galaxy Camera's feature set is tough to beat, combining the power of a high-end Android OS 4.1 Jelly Bean device with a giant HD-resolution touch screen and the 21x zoom and 16-megapixel resolution of a compact camera.

The Bad: If you're looking for great picture quality for the Galaxy Camera's $500 price tag, you're probably going to be disappointed. Its battery life is fairly short. To get the most from it, you'll want to pay for a monthly data plan.

The Bottom Line: Outside of its relatively high cost of ownership and average point-and-shoot picture quality, the Samsung Galaxy Camera definitely delivers the shoot-and-share experience of a smartphone with the features of a compact camera.

Canon PowerShot G15 Review

Canon PowerShot G15 Digital Camera Video Review

Review
The Good: In addition to a great, fast lens, the Canon PowerShot G15 has a nice, streamlined shooting design and produces very nice photos.

The Bad: It's humbled by a somewhat limited feature set and ho-hum performance.

The Bottom Line: The Canon PowerShot G15 continues the G-series tradition of solid advanced compacts, but doesn't rank as best in class by any particular measure.
